I was cleaning out the garden in our new place; we have a few nettle bushes growing and we want rid. If we want them removing, which we do, we need to be prepared to get stung.
We can take precautions, but ultimately, we’re getting stung. That’s the only way we’ll remove them, we can’t avoid it and it’s got to be done. Short term pain for long term gain.
Sometimes, whether it’s at work, at home or with a project, if you want something doing, you’ve got to be prepared to take the hit in the short-term. You’ve got to be prepared to get stung.
We repainted our entire flat, then decided we wanted the three human-sized shelves sprawling beside our chimney breast taken down. We pulled them off and they left 36 pea-sized holes in our walls. We had to pull the screws out, fill the holes in, sand down the surface, paint the shelves white, then given them a coat in the same shade as the rest of the wall and then repainted the entire wall again. It created a shit load of mess and loads of work. It stung us in the short term, but if we wanted the rid of the shelves, then that’s what needed to happen. There’s no other way around it. Short term pain for long term gain.
To change something, big or small, sometimes you’ve got to make a temporary mess. Sometimes you can’t work with what you have and you need to destroy and rebuild. This is the only way to create something of real value exactly how you want it.
